Eco Avenue
Eco Avenue will be centrally located on Elm Street between 8th and 7th Streets and devoted to interactive displays teaching people about sustainable living.
Eco Avenue booths will be filled with information to empower you to make lifestyle changes that reduce your environmental impact. Find sustainable living tips and ideas for every aspect of your life.

Eco Avenue Schoolhouse
Eco Avenue Schoolhouse is a new place on Eco Avenue this year. Take a few minutes on Earth Day to sit down at our shade canopy and learn about a sustainability topic of your choice and meet the folks who are working in the area. The choices are broad so you may return for seconds. Our presenters are all local volunteers and most have booths on Eco Avenue where more in depth information can be located. Environmentally Sound Products of Missouri
*Winners of Best Educational Booth 2009*
These are the people who teach and supply us with all the products to start vermicomposting or composting with worms. The completed compost is a valuable tool in raising plants without chemicals. See the garbage they consume and the end product. They have worms, worm kits, worm castings, worm books and plants available. Check out their presentation at the Eco Avenue school house.
Sustain Mizzou
This is a nonprofit student group which promotes sustainability to the UMC campus and students living in the community. Their booth will focus on housing choices for students moving off campus. They want to bring up the entire package that a new house comes with. They will have a worksheet/pamphlet to fill out on a proposed move that will calculate average utility bills along with, transportation costs, proximity to essential establishments like grocery stores and work as part of the monthly rent. While they will be talking about money the real issue is sustainability. They will have a map of Columbia that shows bike and bus routes in relationship to housing. Volunteers will be available to discuss bike and walk distances as a form of commuting. Recycled notebooks will be offered for sale and Foot Print Magazine and handouts about sustain Mizzou.
Ozark Avalon Church of Nature
A nonprofit religious organization whose mission is to provide access to nature, a safe place for outdoor worship in an earth-centered, earth honoring spiritual context, to promote community among persons with these beliefs and practices and to further environmentalism and appreciation for nature spirits and the earth. We maintain a 170 acre land preserve and community near Columbia. Our booth will focus on Green Burial and the need for environmentally responsible treatment of our physical remains has on the environment. We will offer an information packet to persons interested in green burial as well as land, community and earth friendly camping.
Missourians for Safe Energy
This non profit organization will share ideas as to how you can move your lifestyle in a carbon-free and nuclear-free direction by becoming far more energy efficient and tapping available, affordable renewable energy sources. Visit with us to learn more.
Peaceworks of Mid Missouri Center for Sustainable Living
Peaceworks' Center for Sustainable Living: CSL will share sustainable living tips, provide information about Columbia's 2010 Sustainable Living Fair, and provide access to an extensive collection of books on Sustainable Living from the non-profit Peace Nook.
Missouri Solar Applications
The focus of this company is solar electric and heating. They have a solar panel on display and a power point presentation. They sell solar systems and will have “Intro on Solar Systems” handouts available. They will also be presenting at the Eco Avenue Schoolhouse.
Community Garden Coalition
This is a non profit organization where you can talk with people about community gardening in Columbia and gardening in general. Learn how to plug in and get your own garden space or simply to learn by assisting others.
Center for Urban Agriculture
The Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture is a local non-profit organization that focuses on community development and education. Our mission is to demonstrate the viability of urban food production and commerce, educate the public on production methods, provide support for local foodshed, and advocate for like-policy. Through these efforts CCUA will empower the citizens of Columbia to improve their access to local healthy foods. They will also have information and displays for persons wanting to lean about urban hens in Columbia.
Columbia Water and Light
This city of Columba department’s booth will highlight the numerous energy efficiency programs being offered along with information about the city's renewable energy portfolio. Information on incentives for energy efficiency and solar systems will also be available."
Human Environmental Sciences Extension
These two booths will display a mock-up roof with solar and wind energy. They will show how home energy costs can be reduced using home energy conservation, sustainable building materials and alternative energy.
League of Women Voters, Energy Matters Committee
This is a sub committee of the League of WomenVoters, an important non profit organization which provides information on many civic issues. Plenty of info to network you with sources for alternative energy and programs that help support green energy use as well as renewable energy for Columbia's electricity.
O2 Geothermal
This is a company that specializes in Geothermal applications. Ground source heat pumps greatly reduce demand for fossil fuels by providing heat and cool using renewable, stored solar energy. They will have people knowledgeable about the technology as well as picture of installation and samples of system components.
Columbia Public Works Volunteer Program
Part of the Public works Department of the city of Columbia this group focuses on waste reduction, reuse and recycling education. They even have recycling games. Look for their presentations on recycling and composting at the Eco Avenue Schoolhouse and see their art projects using recycled materials in the kids area.
Missouri River Communities Network
This nonprofit organization’s mission is to preserve the natural and cultural resources of the Missouri River. Their booth focuses on helping homeowners minimize the impact that they have on our streams by encouraging rain gardens, rain barrels, safe disposal of wastes and water quality monitoring. Look for their interactive game of Macro Match — a game for kids and adults alike learn about the life in healthy streams. They also have handouts and giveaway items from the Missouri Stream Team.
Master Gardeners
Check out the plant sale and learn about practical gardening with this University Extension based program. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your questions.
Master Conservationists
This department of Conservation program will teach you about the natural eco-system and how you as a human impact that system. Native plant and other species information will be provided.
Renew Midwest — the Midwest Alliance of Renewable Energy
See the small wind turbine and learn about how we can impact the development of large scale alternative energy.
The Greenbelt Land Trust
This non-profit organization’s work is conserving our streams, forests, grasslands and farmlands that represent our distinctive landscape for present and future generations

This coalition of individuals, businesses and non-profits, schools, University departments, and government agencies is dedicated to creating and promoting the use of a pe destrian and pedaling network throughout Columbia.
